Studying at Rangitoto

New Zealand employs a modern and innovative education system that prepares students for a fast-paced global economic life. Teachers encourage active participation in classroom discussions, fostering independent problem-solving and teamwork skills. We assess students through a range of methods (exams, assignments, practical skills assessments, teamwork, and presentations) to develop different levels of their intellectual abilities.

Rangitoto College excels in mathematics and science, where our students frequently win national awards. For exceptionally high-achieving students, the school places them in the Broadcast program, allowing them to complete all courses more quickly and better prepare for university. Rangitoto College provides a safe, secure, and caring learning environment where students acquire practical knowledge and skills to help them succeed in university and beyond. With over 15 years of experience enrolling international students, Rangitoto has established numerous systems to help our students adapt to life in New Zealand as quickly as possible. Multiple college deans ensure students stay on track academically, while dedicated counselors help students plan for their future.

Some of our courses are compulsory, and students can also choose other relevant electives based on their future career goals. If students are interested in specific university disciplines, such as medicine, business, or engineering, we will also help them choose related recommended or required courses, making it easier for them to achieve their goals. Rangitoto offers the following university-recognized courses: Accounting, Biology, Business Studies, Calculus, Chemistry, Classical Studies, Computer Programming, Dance, Drama, Economics, Electronics, English, Food Technology, French, Geography, Graphic Design, Health, History, Art History, Japanese, Materials Technology, Multimedia Technology, Media Studies, Music Performance, Painting, Photography, Sports, Exercise Science, Statistics, Maori, and Textile Technology.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme

Rangitoto College prides itself on offering not only the New Zealand National Curriculum (NCEA) but also the globally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. The IB is a two-year foundation diploma that can replace Years 12 and 13 of the NCEA program. The IB program requires a high level of English writing and speaking skills; therefore, students must possess excellent English proficiency. For Chinese-speaking students, the IB is an excellent option, as we offer Chinese as a native language choice.

International Department – Helping international students better adapt to their studies

Rangitoto College has a sizable international department to help students live and study in New Zealand. We provide support for homestays, visas, and insurance, and are ready to answer any questions and offer assistance. Our international department has a Chinese-speaking staff member who communicates with all students from mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong to understand their living conditions in homestays and their academic progress at school. Our international student academic advisors assist students with subject selection and answer their questions about their studies. The school also has nurses, counselors, and physiotherapists on staff to provide assistance to students when needed.

When students arrive in New Zealand, we will meet them at the airport and then transfer them to their respective host families. At the beginning of the first and third semesters, the international department organizes a two-day orientation for new students to help them adapt to school life as quickly as possible. The event includes a traditional Maori welcome ceremony, a school tour with local students, and an introduction to everything that happens at school.

diversification

International students will study alongside local New Zealand students, helping to improve their English and enabling them to use it fluently and confidently. They will also study and live with international students from over 30 different countries, providing them with valuable learning experiences and ensuring they acquire the skills to navigate the globalized job market of the future.
